For trade mark aficionados this was a welcomed development as it makes it easier and more efficient to conduct trade mark business in Trinidad and Tobago. As part of the overall digitisation of the trade mark system, the Trinidad and Tobago Intellectual Property Office has done a stellar job in developing the trade mark system infrastructure in line with international standards.

Interested persons can now conduct extensive trade mark searches in real time with a mostly up to date database of existing trade marks. There remains a small lag between marks being processed and the website updating.

With this publicly available tool, businesses, especially new ones, are urged to check whether their name conflicts with any pre-existing brands.
